March 20, 2002 Wireless In Canada!
It's about time Canada caught up to the rest of the world and had easy wireless handheld access. It has been possible for a couple of years but you had to either find a cord to your cell phone or use the infrared ports. Finding a provider that supported data over a cell phone was another problem. Not any more! Thanks to the Treo by Handspring and Rogers / AT&T. The Treo 180 series will be available this April 2002 through selected authorized wireless dealers and retail locations across Canada or by visiting the Rogers AT&T Wireless Web site at www.rogers.com. Both Treo 180 and 180g will cost CDN $749.99 with a two-year service plan and $849.99 with a one-year service plan. Read the press release from Handspring for more details. I find it surprising that it has taken this long as Canadians tend to adopt new technology faster than many parts of the world, well at least in my neck of the woods they do! Dave

My local computer shop just received a shipment of Palm m505's. No other big news to report.

05/05/01  Palm(tm) m500 and m505 available
The much anticipated m500 and m505 are available, if you are lucky enough to be able to find one that is. At this time supplies the m505 appear for to be very limited the m500 is much easier to find. We will just have to wait a little longer and I am sure that m505 will be easier to find in your favorite local computer shop.

03/31/01  Palm(tm) stock come tumbling down
Palm(tm) stock took a huge hit on Wednesday. Palm(tm) stock has been sliding since January but this was a huge drop the stock went from approx $15.50 to $8.50. Handspring(tm) the makers of the "other" PalmOS(tm) handheld stock also fell, but they grew so much the day before no one really noticed, the slide put them just below where they were only two days prior, about $11.70.

03/19/01  New Models from Palm(tm) m500 and m505!
It's official Palm has announced the new handhelds. We have been teasing you all week about a new model handheld, possibly two of them. well ... We just noticed that on the Palm web page the m500 and m505 are there. The m500 is another V series this time with PalmOS(tm) version 4, USB connections, and an expansion slot. The expansion card slot is a dual-purpose slot that can hold two types of cards: Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard, all I can say right now is WOW it's true! The m505 is all that but in a vivid 16Bit Color version. Another feature that has been added is a vibrating and LED alert, the power button flashes when an alarm goes off.

As expected the Visor Edge is the new addition to the already successful line from Handspring(tm). This new unit has a smaller form factor and is enclosed in a metal case. Of course it is compatible with all the Springboard modules that made the Visor famous.  This time the module does not just plug in, the Edge uses an Edge Connector Port with a detachable Springboard Slot. As with all Handspring units it also connects to your PC via the USB port. This unit is only .44" thin and weighs in at only 4.8oz. Let's not forget that this unit also uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery! Looks like the Palm(tm) V series has some competition now!

03/07/01  Current Palm(tm) models now include:
As of yesterdays announcement of the new m105 the current models are:
m100, m105, VIIx, Vx and IIIc. Note that the IIIxe is now gone. If you don't want the m105 because it has a smaller display, you had better get out there soon pickup the IIIxe as I looks like it is no longer available from Palm(tm).

03/06/01  It's now official, Palm(tm) has a new handheld: the m105
You probably have already heard the rumors, turns out they were true. The m105 looks a lot like the m100 but with 8MB of RAM, and now with a cradle not just a cable, and of course more software, now that you have the space to store it. Small, compact and multiple color faceplates and now with 8MB of RAM.. cool? sure! Want to see what Palm(tm) has to say about it check it out at the official web page.
