eWallet® from Ilium software is a an encrypted digital wallet for you to place information you want to keep private. Most users would use it for information such as web site logins, credit card numbers, PIN numbers for banks and a whole lot more. This software uses RC4 encryption algorithm with a 128 bit key; so if have chosen a good password you can be sure that your data is secure. When you are asked for a password you will get a numeric keypad pop up. If you have chosen a number you can just touch the numbers and then choose OK. I would not recommend choosing a strictly numerical password as this is not very secure. You can enter alpha numeric characters the same way you would normally on a Pocket PC, this could be with the popup keyboard, block recognizer, transcriber or whatever you favorite way of entering text may be. You can set the software to lock after a set amount of time and also have it lock out access after a set amount of incorrect password attempts for a custom amount of time. So if someone picks up your handheld at a meeting they aren't going get at your confidential data very easily. eWallet® creates the individual entries in a format that views like a business card. There are over 15 categories with over 30 template card types you can use. Some examples would be Credit Card, Internet Sites, Combination Lock or you could just use a Free Form Card. If you wanted you can have a category that is not password protected. This is useful for information that is not confidential. You can not edit the field tags but with this many choices you should be able to find something that suites what you are trying to enter. This was the only thing I wish it had, and quite frankly it's not that important with all the choices of templates available. The area under the card could easily store any additional information the template does not have. You can enter a graphic or a custom icon if you would like to make your card more interesting and add a splash of colour. This version comes with five samples or it is very easy to create your own. If you really want to get fancy you could add a sound. Sounds and graphics can be added in two ways, either inserted into the wallet file or as an attachment. If you add them as an attachment they are not inserted into the wallet file and therefore do not add a lot to the file size. I currently have about 75 cards with a couple of graphics and the file size on my Pocket PC is only 95K. Ilium's web site has a more icons and backgrounds if you don't want to create your own.
There are two ways to view a list of cards, list view and icon view. There is also a search function if you want to find something fast and you don't remember what category you placed it in or just don't want to drill down to find it.
The professional version of eWallet® comes with the matching desktop application. It is just like the Pocket PC version but on the desktop. If you have entered a URL in a URL field it transforms to a hyperlink so you can click on the link and go to the web site. This little feature does not work on the Pocket PC version, only on the desktop version. Of course the desktop version will synchronize to the Pocket PC. (There is also a PalmOS version of this software available)
