So you have an HP Jornada Pocket PC and you want something to jazz it up, offer a bit of protection and a way to carry it around? A good quality leather case might be what you are looking for. RhinoSkin has a leather Flip-Case that just might be what you are looking for.

This case is made from quality leather and suede. Don't confuse this very high quality suede with those blue suede shoes, this stuff is much better. The two tone front is very sharp and stylish. It has a pocket on the right side to store a stylus, so you can use your favourite one instead of the thin toothpick the Jornada comes with. Inside the top cover is a pocket to store business cards or a few bills. The stitching is another area this case shines in. The tight stitches don't have any threads hanging from them and you have to look very closely to even see where the stitching ends. The flip is held down with a snap on the back of the case.

The flip case, as you might have guessed flips open and the top flips around the back to give you easy access to the handheld unit. It offers some protection from bumps, knocks and scratches. As it is made from leather you would not expect it to give protection from serious drops or collisions.

The included two part belt clip is easy to install onto the back of the case. This leaves only a knob on the case that clips into the second part of the belt clip. This is the same type of clip used for cell phones and other gadgets. The clip is designed to be able to rotate 360°. If the unit gets knocked while on your belt the unit will rotate and the leather will also protect from light bumps or scratches.  The clip makes a reassuring click when installed properly.

If you have a Jornada 560 series handheld there are a few drawbacks as the case covers the light sensor, microphone and part of the record button. The record button is still useable but it is half covered. The sound does go through the case even with the microphone covered, but it does sound somewhat muffled. The light sensor at the top of the case is covered so if you have the backlight set to auto on/off according to ambient light, it will be on all the time. However if you have an HP Jornada 540 series this will not be an issue as the record button is higher up and microphone is also on the top of the unit not the bottom of the unit. (why HP put the microphone on the bottom and not the top on the 560 series is beyond me)

record button half covered

Final Words:
The RhinoSkin HP Jornada flip case is very stylish and is a good compliment to the good looking handheld. The case does not add much size to the unit and can easily fit into a suit jacket or be worn on a belt with the belt clip. The pouch on the side for a stylus is very handy. This makes the stylus easier to get at and gives the option to use a third party stylus instead of the one that comes with the unit.
