Tomeraidit is a pre-processor for the program TomeRaider. This program strips HTML tags from websites that you may want to read on your PocketPC. The difficulty lies in how much work you must do to get the file on your handheld. Let's start with the installation of Tomeraidit. The package arrived as a ZIP file, this is very common and is the preferred method by many publishers to compress their files. There is no installation file to get this program onto your computer, instead you must execute the file from where you unzipped it. Due to the lack of an installation process, if you want a link on your desktop or start menu you must create this on your own. Now that you have found the executable file, the idea is to put a web site or web page on your handheld to view with TomeRaider. (TomeRaider is a file viewer with nice compression capabilities and excellent search capabilities. This is the first third party software you are going to need to use Tomeraidit. These two software programs are not related whatsoever, however in order to view the files you create with Tomeraidit you need to view them with TomeRaider) Tomeraidit does not compress any data but instead strips HTML code from WebPages making the files smaller prior to compressing with Tomeraider. You must have saved the Web Page or Website to your hard drive first. To save a web page it is very easy, using Internet Explorer, just surf to the Web Page then go to File and then Save As. Save the page to a directory on your hard drive. If you want to save an entire site you are probably going to need another third party piece of software such as WebCopier, WebSite Extractor, Backwidow, HTTrack or there are many more available from TUCOWS.
Now that you have processed the Web Page or Website you need to import the TXT file using TomeRaider (Desktop version) you can get this program from TomeRaider. Now the rest is up to TomeRaider Windows Version and TomeRaider for your handheld. This complicated process just to get a WebPage on your handheld is a lot of work. I doubt that a novice computer user would be able to perform this operation without complications. For experienced computer users there may be some use for Tomeraidit, as once you get to work non-complex web pages are compressed very nicely. Complex web pages however loose their formatting and become difficult to follow. Final Words:
